        <description><![CDATA[<p>Hi. (I'm not familiar with the forums)</p><p>I'm really a beginner (and old ha ha ha)<br />&#13;
I found some programming that allows me to display random sentences from HTML. The code is fine after some reflections and adaptations I am trying to make a line BREAK in a variable so that the name of the creator of the quote is after the sentence, below.</p><p>Q1)  For example and simplified, a sentence:<br />&#13;
"So shaken as we are, so wan with care," Henry announces to his court. Shakespeare"<br />&#13;
I would like this:<br />&#13;
"So shaken as we are, so wan with care, Henry announces to his court." (on line return...)<br />&#13;
"Shakespeare"</p><p>script.js line break in a variable quotes = [" (no solution)</p><p>I can't find...<br />&#13;
The code used (which I did not create comes from a codePen site. The script.js gives this and works (in short) but not possible to find a line break</p><p>var quotes = ["So shaken as we are, so wan with care," Henry announces to his court. Shakespeare",</p><p>"To be, or not to be: that is the question.  Shakespeare"<br />&#13;
]; etc. etc.</p><p>function getQuote() {<br />&#13;
var randomQuote = quotes[Math.floor(Math.random() * quotes.length)];<br />&#13;
document.getElementById("parag").innerHTML="&lt;em&gt;" + randomQuote + "&lt;/em&gt;";<br />&#13;
}</p><p>Q2) How to add a new image on new quote</p>]]>

        <description><![CDATA[<p>Large images uploaded by forum users were clogging up my server. Rather than make changes to core vanilla code, I decided a simple solution would be to run a cron script that checks for "large" jpeg's, and compresses one image every 30 minutes. </p><p>This is the script I came up with.</p><div data-embedjson="{&quot;body&quot;:&quot;Simple php scripts to compress images in uploads folder. - pinchies\/VanillaCompressImages&quot;,&quot;photoUrl&quot;:&quot;https:\/\/avatars3.githubusercontent.com\/u\/13392985?s=400&amp;v=4&quot;,&quot;url&quot;:&quot;https:\/\/github.com\/pinchies\/VanillaCompressImages&quot;,&quot;embedType&quot;:&quot;link&quot;,&quot;name&quot;:&quot;pinchies\/VanillaCompressImages&quot;}">

This seemed like a simple solution to this issue for my server at least, and it freed up a lot of space, and the settings I've chosen have negligible compromise on image quality.</p><p>Hopefully this helps someone, or at least draws dev attention for a need for an integrated feature like this.</p><p>Thanks all.</p>]]>

        <description><![CDATA[<p>👋 <strong>Hello Vanilla Forums Developers,</strong></p><p>I’ve been working on an idea to create a new addon for Vanilla Forums that would allow easy embedding of <a href="https://youtube-playlist-length-calculator.onrender.com/" rel="nofollow noopener ugc">YouTube playlists</a> directly into discussion threads and sidebars. The goal is to enhance user engagement by providing multimedia content that complements discussions and helps with learning.</p><p><strong>Addon Features:</strong></p><ol><li><strong>Seamless Embedding:</strong> A simple way to embed YouTube playlists into posts using a custom BBCode or a plugin that adds an "Embed Playlist" button to the text editor.</li><li><strong>Customizable Display:</strong> Options for how the playlist appears, such as a compact view, full player, or a sidebar widget.</li><li><strong>Automatic Updates:</strong> The addon could automatically pull new videos into the playlist based on a YouTube channel or playlist ID, keeping the content fresh without manual updates.</li></ol><p><strong>Development Plan:</strong></p><ul><li><strong>Phase 1:</strong> Basic functionality with manual playlist embedding.</li><li><strong>Phase 2:</strong> Integration with Vanilla's API for user-specific playlist suggestions based on forum activity.</li><li><strong>Phase 3:</strong> Advanced customization options and potential integration with third-party analytics.</li></ul><p><strong>Feedback Needed:</strong></p><ul><li>Would this addon be useful for your forum?</li><li>What features would you like to see in a YouTube playlist embed addon?</li><li>Any challenges you foresee with embedding external content like this?</li></ul><p>💬 <strong>I’d love to hear your thoughts!</strong> If there’s interest, I’m happy to collaborate or share the development progress with the community. Let’s make Vanilla Forums more dynamic together!</p>]]>

<p>2023.008 successfully built. Tested on php 7.4 and seems working php 8.1 (lot of warnings in log like previous releases). Permissions bugs with custom profile fields is gone <span>🤩</span></p><p>1) Go "/utility/update" to update database. Like previous releases "/utility/update" return sometime 'Something wrong...' but update status is ok in config.php. So check update status and date in config.php</p><p>2) You have to add "version.json" in root folder</p><p>3) If database error during upgrade (MariaDB / Cpanel...) removing ALGORITHM = INPLACE LOCK = NONE in: applications\vanilla\settings\structure.php &amp; library\database\class.databasestructure.php</p><p>Please read previous OSS Custom builds threads for fixing various problems.</p><p>It's perfectly working on a php 7.4 install.</p>]]>

        <description><![CDATA[<p>I am trying to figure out how to implement my own custom parser for the Richtext editor in 3.3, basically, I would like some old BBCode emojis to parse and display as their gifs. I would also like to implement some sort of short code for James Bond film titles, i.e. [GE] would change to Goldeneye, [NTTD] would become No Time To Die.</p><p>I don't mind if this happens before being saved (maybe better for search having the full film name anyway) or at render time but I am struggling to see how I can achieve it.</p><p>The nearest event seems to be "BeforeCommentBody" however this is deprecated.</p><p>If I upgrade to the latest release does this make the job any easier?</p><p>Thanks</p><p>Simon</p>]]>
