Where are they gone?

Just upgraded to Vanilla 1.1

My Application Settings page no longer has the fields for...
TextPrefix, TextSticky, TextClosed, TextSuffix etc...

    Same problem. If I upload my old language file, the prefixes don't show up at the discussion's page. They are now in the language file (definitions.php).

    This is causing problems with the Discussion Pages extension, too. Have a look at this posting.

    You can edit the language file. At the bottom of the version 1.1 you see the changes.

    Yeah - that was a request from a few members a while back. Those definitions never should have been in the configuration array, but they were added before Vanilla had the option of multiple languages, so it was a long overdue change.

    So, can these settings still be changed in the interface somewhere, or do we have to manually change them in a language file somewhere? I feel quite silly asking this, but despite the postings above, I have not been able to find a page anywhere in the Admin that has this options - and these options used to be there in version 1.0.3, under "Application Settings".

    Technically all language changes should be added to your conf/language.php file.

    There isn't a place to do it yet, no. But I bet that would make for a good add-on.

    @Mark: while I know how to use a text editor and make these changes by hand, I must say that removing features that users were used to having before does sound like an easy way to piss people off... It may have been easy enough to move the location of these setting to a different config file, while still retaining the interface.

    @icouto: the interface has been removed because it it not suitable for a multilingual setup, where you need several prefixes, suffixes, etc. So now they are translatable strings as others. That's a step forward!

    @Max: yes, I had understood that from previous postings elsewhere. Nevertheless, I had also seen on several postings that users had been using those setting in very creative ways - as Wanderer mentioned in his posting above. This makes no difference to me personally, as I had not customised those settings in any way. But again, the lack of documentation for the users who *had* will undoubtedly cause some problems. I hope someone will add a page about this to the wiki, and that extension developers whose extensions are affected by these changes (such as "Discussion Pages") will update their own code soon. Until these issues and their fixes are properly documented, I will have to hold on to upgrade my own forum, despite all the security benefits of the new version. Because multilingual issues are very close to my heart, I personally welcome these changes - any change that will make Vanilla closer to being a truly multilingual package has my vote. Nevertheless, documentation on these changes is lacking, and problems will arise because of it.
