cannot upload add-on with .tar.gz extension

Some problems were encountered The file you attempted to upload (FixLanguageDefinitions.tar.gz) was of type "application/x-gzip", but the file extension "tar.gz" did not match the accepted extensions for this type of file: gz

Is it possible to add tar.gz into application/x-gzip application-type?
Actually also tgz, if it is not there (forgot to try this one)

Comments

  • As it is said on the upload form: "zip, rar, or gzip format only". No surprise...
  • How to gzip a folder

    - gzip cannot compress a folder, it can compress only a single file
    - tar makes a single file pack from a folder

so .tar.gz or .tgz are actually the only extensions which makes sense (and still are gzip formats). These are standards for packages and sources on free systems.

Sure I could rename the file to addon-tar.gz and it would upload, but then it would have wrong application-type and also your operating system wouldn't know what to do with it.
  • Ok, I was not aware of this gzip thing, I agree this should be changed.
  • I've made Mark aware of this. We'll see...
  • MarkMark Vanilla Staff
    Should work now...
  • thanks!

I'll try it next time when I upload a new addon and new complete czech language extension (within days)
  • Just reporting that tar.gz now works, thanks again!
