Re: FilterForumSearch plugin
@donshakespeare sorry about the delay in replying! I somehow missed the notification. As for the issue, I’m not sure what would be causing it. From what I remember, I had to make some changes behind the scenes to fix the search results returning posts the user was not allowed to see, but that was in 2.3.0. I think all that… -
Re: FilterForumSearch plugin
Awesome! I’ll have to implement this once my schedule slows down a bit and I have a chance. Thanks for sharing this! I would not have though about handling it this way. 🙂 On the forums I developed the plugin for we are using a Bootstap theme, which is why the syntax is that way. If you are not using a Bootstap theme, then… -
Re: FilterForumSearch plugin
Thanks @R_J! I took a class that briefly went over PHP or two several years ago, but that I haven't really touched PHP since. That said, normally I program games and have used a variety of programming languages over the years, so maybe that helped. Now that I'm hosting a forum, I'm trying to brush up a bit so I can write… -
Re: FilterForumSearch plugin
Thanks @donshakespeare! I will make the changes soon! I've been busy with non-online things recently and haven't had the time to see these posts or reply until now. I totally agree that Sphinx is awesome, but as you said in many cases it is not possible, which ultimately lead me to working on this plugin. I actually didn't… -

Re: FilterForumSearch plugin
Good work. Here is another semi major issue. The plugin does not signify the search section name. Inspect the body element in the browser, this is missing 'Section-SearchResults'. So, any custom smarty logic in the theme or another PHP plugin or even mere CSS rules that depend on Section-SearchResults, will ultimately… -
Re: FilterForumSearch plugin
Thanks for the suggestions and the translation file @pioc34! I will make the changes once I have the ability/time to. As for searching with the title of a discussion, currently the plugin only searches for text within discussions and doesn't account for the title of the discussion itself. I might be able to add support for… -
Re: FilterForumSearch plugin
Version 2.2.0: Added Gdn_Theme::Section to class.filteredforumsearch.plugin.php to make the plugin work with other plugins, Smarty code, and CSS. Thanks @donshakespeare for the feedback and suggestion! Removed the search label and replaced it with a placeholder text to better match Vanilla's default search page. Thanks… -
Re: FilterForumSearch plugin
So from 2.3.0 -> 2.3.1 some major changes have broken the plugin altogether making unusable :( And I am unable to pinpoint (yet) was is doing it. It no longer searches discussions without comments, or returns comments instead of discussion. It no longer works if user has this custom function: function… -
Re: FilterForumSearch plugin
It's still a ways off from reaching an open source release, but I wanted to followup with a bit of information about how we create our indexes for the discussion/comment table. After evaluating a change to how our SQL driver handles FULLTEXT indexes proposed by @R_J (important for searches without a dedicated search engine…
