Core and Addon Upkeep, Maintenance, and Support
So, I've been working on looking for a platform to take over the workload from a BuddyPress+bbPress site that just hasn't worked out the way we wanted it to. I've been going from forum to forum, open source and paid, looking for something that I think has some staying power, stability, and support to make it a good… -
Proposal for easier replies
@hgtonight mentioned an issue with the replypush service. Granted it is a feature not a bug as such, but it is down to a practical limitation. There is a requirement to put /eom at the end of the message so the service knows were to snip. It may seem trivial to remove the original message without help, but that is far… -
Re: Allow html code in comments
I assume you are using the Advanced editor here, since the rich editor doesn't allow you to type html at all. The advanced editor cleans the html using client-side javascript, you can edit the plugins/editor/js/advanced.js to set up whitelisting for what you want to allow. editor.js also have an example at the bottom how… -
Re: How to cripple commenting ability in one easy step? add a vanilla.png file in your forum root
in vanilla 2.1 - problem doesn't occur.... I renamed the vanilla21 folder to vanilla. changed the .htaccess for rewrite base /vanilla no problem. So it would mimic the way I had the problem with other vanilla version. further tests in vanilla 2.0.18.8 in vanilla 2.0.18.8 ubuntu and apache. changed vanilla folder as a test… -
Re: Running a successful Vanilla forum with 3500+ members.. any questions?
@Todd 1. initially i spread it by dropping flyers around campus, and optimizing my forum for the keyword "sfu forum".. once ppl started using the forum and creating threads, those threads got indexed in google and the long tail started bringing in traffic (as well as word of mouth). right now, a majority of traffic comes… -
Re: What text editor to use when editing Vanilla files
I prefer the look and feel of Notepad++ so I’m really using it quite often, but only for easy tasks. What I do not like about it is, that a search across files blocks the editor and you’ll have to wait until its finished. That’s the main annoyance why I’ve started looking for alternatives! The best alternative I found by… -

Re: I need sort of a sparing partner...
Creating thumbs as well as changing ForeignID and Type is not needed. There is no official use case for it. I'm aware of that. A picture that has been uploaded with e.g. Comment#999 can be used in arbitrary other dicsussions and comments. So what is updating ForeignID and Type really good for? I don't know. But someone… -
Re: Allow users to title private messages and remove users from the thread
You would need to start a new conversation with the participants you want included. I don't believe there is a way to ignore the user just per conversation, and there is no way to prevent them from receiving messages if they are already included. The user themselves can delete themselves from the conversation and will no… -
VanillaHtmlFormatter: How to do a true RTE WYSIWYG or WYWIWYG or WYGIWYW
WYSIWYG: (?.) huh!? WYWIWYG: (n.) What You Write Is What You Get (Better) WYGIWYW: (n.) What You Get Is What You Wrote (Best) Sometimes you have that RTE software that lies to you. I.e, you copy and paste all kinds of fancy HTML into the RTE, the RTE does not even warn you that you are overdoing things with your scrolling…
