Hey, new to vanilla - having some theme and add on install trouble

I have downloaded some themes, and I read the readme's, but it seems like there is not enough details in the readme's for me to get the theme working. Can anyone give me a step by step process on how I can get the theme from my download to my vanilla account? Thank you

ok just put the extracted folder into the themes folder

into the themes folder in my ftp client? Or the themes folder in vanilla on my actual computer

Ok, I see the theme available, and I change the theme on the vanilla options, but then it looks nothing like any of the themes, as if the themes don't work, any tips?
