I am in indeed of making a few categories I have on my forum to be read-only for members. So, unauthenticated users and members can view the category discussions and comments but can not comment themselves. Only administrators can still post of them.

Is there either an option I missed or an addon that can do that?

PS: This is for Vanilla 1.

    CategoryRoles nearly does that but once a discussion has been started any user can move said discussion to any categories whether or not they have privileges set for that category or not.

    Okay, I am to blame for this one. CategoryRole has a change in theme that needs to be applied before this addon works as advertised. My bad.

    Case closed.

    I was having a similar issue and I also was able to fix it changing CategoryRole theme. check out website about contact lenses
