Make my starting page catagories not discussions...

Just like it says, I want to make the first page visited the catagories page instead of the discussions page. What is the proper method??

I used the add-on called DefaultPage to do just that.

this seems to work well for me (it forwards to categories). I was wondering though, is there a way to mask or rewrite the url so that categories show up under the root domain?

So, I'd like to keep my main page / and have it show the categories page.
