no theme for login/logout page

I tried to build my own theme (custom vanilla.css, some changes in menu.php), which worked quite nicely but the login page (and the logout page) doesn't load a theme at all.

    Oh it seems I need the people.css in my theme.

    Is there a better way to integrate the login/logout page not only into the theme but also into the entire page? I'm thinking of some lightbox/thickbox window for login and a simple logout message on the forum index page.
