Digg/Stackoverflow theme plugin for Vanilla2

I would like to display the No of Comments, and No of Views for each discussion in the discussions list page, kinda like Digg displays the no of digs or stackoverflow displays the no of answers. On the right I would like to display a thumbnail image of the author of the thread.

I think the right way to do it is in the form of a plugin? Any ideas and clues would be greatly appreciated.
