Apply on existing web page

I am not a real knowledgeable programmer, so bear with me please. I want to install a forum or comment section on an existing web page. By looking through the installation, it looks as though Vanilla sets up it's own index page. I do not wish to replace my existing index page, but add this to it. Can a rookie like me do that with this? Thanks.
