V1.1.7 how do I install plugins? no instructions found

I just wrote this post over in this theme plug-in here http://vanillaforums.org/addon/500/#Comment_10334

It would be nice if I could figure out how to apply this theme. Where are the instructions (and yes this is the very first plug-in Ive ever tried to install in vanilla. It just so happens that i have looked all over the site and there is all kinds of info on how to create plug-ins but nothing on how to install them... Geez come on guys how did you overlook this?)

Also I must say that I am using the vanilla forums plug-in for elgg (a social network OS platform) and I have no idea if the code for the plug-in for elgg is modified from regular v1.1.7

Thanks so much. i installed the theme in the correct place and extracted it. In the dir it looks similar to the default profile. Howevere I can't find a way to activate it. It says "choose the style using the Themes & Styles form on the settings tab." but i don't have a settings tab. perhaps I am looking on the wrong screen for the tab but this is the only screen I have for the vanilla forum within elgg...

I'd be inclined to say you don't have permission to change the theme. Have you logged in as admin?

i figured it out... when I installed vanilla I think I had a different user admin name from elgg and elgg logs in for me so they didnt match and the admin stuff didnt show up. After I reinstalled it worked fine

I think I figured it out. Use the extensions folder. Now that I can see admin area i put 2 and 2 together and got 7
