Vanilla Guest Posting

edited July 2006 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
Hi, Is there any way to let guests post on Vanilla? I want to be able to let my users post without having to register.. Can't seem to find this option anywhere - and I was just wondering if it's built in..? Thanks, Asif

It's not built in because it would require a whole change to the way it works (i.e. people would just put usernames in and post which could cause a conflict of opinions) It has been discussed as an extension because it's a reasonably common request but so far as i know it hasnt yet been implemented.

Perhaps check out the request list on the wiki and if it's not there then add it up.
  • You could add an "anonymous" account which guests can use to add comments... but it would still need an extension to actually post the comment with this user account...

hi, i got this to work with an account "Anonymous" with the passwd "anonymous" and a dirty hack in the AddComments extension. I change line 48 an 49 to this: <td class="CredentialsInput InputUsername"><input type="text" name="Username" value="Anonymous" /></td> <td class="CredentialsInput InputPassword"><input type="password" name="Password" value="anonymous" /></td> So the guest just need to type his message and can post. Of course this is very dirty, everybody who can read html can read the login data of this user and can do not wanted things, but for my little page it works. greets blueonyx
