Multiple roles per user - Modify Vanilla 1 or Risk Vanilla 2

I need users to have multiple roles

what does the community think is the better option?
1) Modify Vanilla 1 so that it works with multiple roles.
2) Risk implementing Vanilla 2 with the bugs that it currently has.

The front end developers will need to get started on theming soon

If Vanilla 2 does everything else you need it to and you don't mind working around the bugs... also it's easier to theme/style V2...

Vanilla 2 does do everything I need it to (and more), and will have much more support than Vanilla 1.

Also, I think working around the bugs in Vanilla 2 is much safer / easier than trying to change the core of Vanilla 1 to handle multiple roles.
