How do I update my Vanilla 2 installation?

edited May 2010 in Vanilla 2.0 - 2.8
So I finally managed a working installation for Vanilla 2, but still encounter a few bugs here and there, such as:

- Clicking on an empty category, triggers BONK
- Enters in a post don't show in the final post but everything's aligned without enters
- Profile pictures don't save properly
- Some plugins don't work

I think within the last few days there might have been a few updates that fixed those problems, and now I would like to update my version of Vanilla. The question is: How do I do this? I'm not sure if there's an auto-updater like in Wordpress for example or what I have to change through FTP to make it work.

Thank you!

    Hi Wiske.

It should be possible to simply copy the new files from GitHub over your existing files (being careful not to delete anything that isn't specifically overwritten, for example your config file).

This will give you the lastest codebase. Then, while logged in as the admin user, visit http://www.yourforum.com/dashboard/utility/structure

There should be a button there labeled something like "Run Structure Scripts" or something like that. Press it, and things should be all up to date.

    Hi Tim,

I am another noob here. Do your instructions still apply? (I believe it has changed, please correct me if I am wrong.)

    As per the docs:

    1. Upload your new version of Vanilla 2
    2. Delete all the .ini files in your cache/ folder
    3. Navigate to the page in your forum that updates your database: www.yourforum.com/utility/update (or www.yourforum.com/index.php?p=/utility/update)
