Features requests!
Hello there,
Well, I'm not so sure whether these features are already in Vanilla and disabled or not even there. Sorry for that.
The features I'm requesting are...
1. Quoting
Like if I wanted to quote just a part of someone's comment.
2. Signatures.
3. Website field in profiles.
4. CODE tag
Edit: It is there
5. IMG tag
Example: [img]http://www.domain.com/image.jpg[/img]
To sum point 1, 4 and 5; Here's how I think about it...

The good news is that all of what you asked for is possible with Vanilla. The bad news is that they are not what we consider 'core' features at the moment, so you'd need to write a plugin (or several plugins) to do this. Plugins can add buttons, modify content, add options, etc.
If you check out the Addons respository you'll see some examples of how to write plugins for Vanilla, and you can go from there!

Once v2 has an official release, there will need to be a process that determines what features are added into core, and what plugins come pre bundled with a fresh install allowing you to disable and enable. Im more so interested in the pre-bundled plugins.
For example, if statistics shows that 90% of vanilla users use plugin "vanilla Polls", then this would grant its access to be prebundled.
also evaluating the amount of plugins being used on a typical vanilla install. I would assume users having 30 plugins installed is not ideal and we would need to evaulate the above ideas to make the vanilla experience seemless, and the out of the box install less task driven for installing these 30 high demand plugins.
I'm hoping we still have a poll for missing features or highly sought plugins.
That's right, @bobtheman because having these features in Vanilla is of course better than installing plugins that may leave "shadow" if it got uninstalled and that kind of stuff. Not to mention that some plugins are not well-coded.
I havn't looked at the admin's panel yet, But I hope there will be statistics page and sitemap builder.
Is the new release coming out any soon? Estimated time or something? I can wait.
2. Stop using CODE tags to print code blocks, this is why we use PRE blocks. The CODE tag, as opposed to the PRE block, does not force things onto a new line & can be used for a single word (e.g. naming a function).
3. Add SmartyPants formatting to Gdn_Format::Markdown or at least create a Gdn_Format::SmartyPants function.
4. Add a "Preview" button to the "Edit Comment" box.
Like and dislike has been discussed before, and im pretty sure it will be developed as a plugin by the core developers.
I'm sure all the current plugins need work to update to recent changes in RC. so this is a huge feature list i would like to see completed
Export and import tools completed (core)
For example, Instead of posting this " ..objec width="640" height="385">param>param>paramembed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/sQ0M9CBEkw0&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385">embed> "
You would just post this "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQ0M9CBEkw0" and the video would be embedded.
