header, footer, fixed width

edited November 2005 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
Hey guys, first off i think this forum is really great! So useable and well layed out. Having some problems however integrating this into my site. I have a very simple layout with a header image, horizontal nav bar, and a footer. The site is a fixed width. I've been bashing at editing the css, and ive had small joys =p but its not going too well! Basically i want to change nothing but get the forum inside my main content panels. I know this is still in development, but can anyone give me any help in doing this. Has anyone done this successfully? Is it even possible? Many thanks. =) Matt

  • could we see your efforts? that way it would be easier for people who can help to see where you're going wrong, what you're doing right etc.
  • http://brunelskydiving.com/forum/ okay. here is my attempt so far. Done by just messing with the css a bit. See the root of the site (still largely under construction) to see the layout im after. I think i could figure this out if i knew how i could add a coulpe of divs, header and a footer, to the markup of every page... but a bit stumped indeed. Im pretty sure i am going about this the wrong way though so any direction would be sweet :) blue skies Matt
  • it's purely css based, so if you're going for a fixed width and aligned left, you'll want to absolutely position everything in the CSS.
  • http://brunelskydiving.com/forum/ wewt. i got my header and menu up there! Having another little trouble though. As you can see its not the widest layout in the world, and when you do an advanced search it busts out of the design. ive managed to stop the left hand panel displaying on the search page, but does anyone know a way that i can override the css of the main body panel (just for the search page) so i can zero the left margin and everything will be nice again :) Blue Skies Matt
  • Well, i managed to fix everything myself :p but thanks anyway. would appreciate a test though see if anyone can break what ive modified. Thanks
  • good work! That's looking rather nicely integrated. The site in general bugs me a tiny bit cause it's off centre but i dunno if you particularly care about that. The vanilla thing is goin well.
