Custom field in sign up and on profile page.

Has anyone been able to add one new field in the sign up? For example if i want the user to enter their full name during sign up. And i also want it to be visible on the profile page..

I Noticed there was a plug-in but it had way o many fields and functions.. I'm looking for something simple..
