Members notification emails fail to send

Using Vanilla 1.1.10

No recent changes made to the forum.

Suddenly started getting the following message whenever an automated email is sent to a forum member:-

Notice: Undefined variable: php_errormsg in /homepages/34/d260127691/htdocs/forum/library/Framework/Framework.Class.Email.php on line 164
A fatal, non-recoverable error has occurred
Technical information (for support personel):

Error Message
An error occurred while sending the email.
Affected Elements

Any ideas as to what might be wrong?
p.s. I changed my home ISP three days ago. Host remains unchanged.

    A bit bizarre but this seems to have fixed itself this week since upgrading to PHP5
