Admin's Log - Upgrading from Vanilla1 to Vanilla2

I'll try to update this as I try everything out... :)

I installed V2 in a sub-directory called Vanilla2 before doing the upgrade.
Everything is working in V1 as I'm writing this and I don't intend to upgrade until everything is just like I want it to be - meaning, same user functions and, time and my lack of expertise will say so, same look.

My approach was to duplicate one database snapshot and try everything I can recall that could cause havoc.

First step, get data from V1 to V2.
Instructions here: http://vanillaforums.com/blog/help/importing-data/
It works, from my point view, almost flawless. It did had a timeout problem (44MB) but it allowed me to resume the importing process - very nice. Some warning about "fast data loading" caused by my server linked to a page where nothing about it was mentioned.
But, it simply worked, didn't need that info anyway.

Got a warning about permissions and roles. Had to set every role, which was time consuming - lots and lots of checkboxes, even for categories (if you have many of each prepare yourself for 10-30 minutes of box checking).

Regarding categories names and descriptions, already filed a "bug" (more of a UI enhancement): https://github.com/vanillaforums/Garden/issues#issue/686 . Please change one thing at a time as it will not save the "right" changes that you made reverting everything to what was saved before.

Whispers are no more, you now have conversations.
First warning about my forum's speed degradation: you get a fancy new stats board about your forum activity and it informs me that my installation's number of whispers is about 20% the number of total comments - massive whispering over here...

One of my biggest concerns was about friendly URLs. I don't want it to get scrambled like it happened with the Lussumo -> Vanilla migration where almost every URL was redirected to the homepage. If a user has a link to my installation I want it to work fine and to redirect him to the right place.

From what I've tested, it seems to work, except for pages.
http://forum.com/discussion/12345/9/title/
doesn't redirect to
http://forum.com/vanilla2/discussion/12345/title/p9
In the routes setting I saw that this is setup to work, but it doesn't.

(update) Profiles don't work either:
http://forumdacasa.com/account/1/
doesn't redirect to
http://forum.com/vanilla2/account/1/

I'll be trying more URLs in the future.

Up to this point, almost everything seems to be working ok.

Now, the extensions/plugins saga. Will I find plugins that replicate extensions that my installation has?

Let me do a list:

Nuggets -> Pockets http://vanillaforums.org/addon/pockets-plugin
Transition appreciation: for better, much more control :)

HTML Formatter -> it simply works out of the box
Transition appreciation: for better, no plugin needed :)

To be continued...
