Like addon

Sorry for bothering with this kinda silly idea, but I can't get it out of my head. How about making a simple "like" addon associated with posts in a discussion? Call me facebookian, but I've seen it on vBulletin forums as well and it seems to improve the quality of the discussion.

I really want to write one myself, but the lack of skills and time keeps me from doing it at the moment. Anyone else up for it?

Was thinking of adding this to the ShareMe plugin, but maybe it's better left separate. Will take a look! I'd like to add placement option, like top, after 1st post, bottom, etc...

@brujah Its all open source so do what you will with it, either make changes to mine or your addon. If you do add to mine then if you send back the edits to me i will upload it.

I haven't done a plugin, but I have altered a theme with a facebook like button.

it takes a little more than expected as fb like require HTML+RDF 1.0 rather than xhtml (and I like my stuff to validate )

Edit: What I had in mind was a like button that doesn't use the Facebook framework but stores the likes in the local database. A Facebook Like button plugin is of course nice to have, but my users would go berzerk if I implemented anything with Facebook connections. Still doable?

The voting plugin does the same job. It just has a different name. Right?

No, this plugin is just to add the facebook like button to your posts and the voting plugin allows users to rate comments (ie like this forum, with the vote count on the left).

With the changes made (mentioned in the plugin thread), liking is now possible although not unliking.

Just found the Kudos plugin, which is exactly what I was looking for! Haven't tried it yet though.
