sessions end when browser is closed...

Hi guys,
My sessions always end when i close my browser (ie. need to relog in whenever i close my browser).

This happens whether or not I put a checkmark in the "keep me logged in" box.

Is this something to do with my PHP.ini settings?

BTW I am running XAMPP 1.7.3 which uses:
1. PHP 5.3.1 (with default php.ini settings)
2. MYSQL 5.1.41
3. On WinXP Pro box locally via "http://localhost/vanilla"
