How to make a new install of Vanilla use a backed up database?

I wanted to reinstall vanilla as it was broken and I couldn't work out how to fix it, so deleted it, but when I tried to reinstall it, it complains about using the same database - how can I get it to use my old vanilla 2 database?

I have backed up my database in a .sql file if that helps for importing - but when I put either it or a gzipped version into the import page in my new vanilla forums, it says that it is not in the right format.

Step 1 Create a New Database (name it the same as the last time)

Step 2 Config /Install Vanilla using the information sql and such

then go to your cpanel click on Backup , and when u get to that screen just upload the old database .sql file
