Neato New Extension

MarkMark Vanilla Staff
edited March 2006 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
I wasn't sure what to call it, so I named it "Add Comments".

Here's the synopsis:

Adds the "Add Comments" form to the page for unauthenticated users, along with a username and password input, allowing users who have not yet signed in to do so and post a message at the same time.

    I just used it!
  • testing. looks good though.
  • me too! That is quite handy actually. Though i'm rarely not logged in... But sometimes i'm not.
  • Infact hell. That's so flawless it should just be the main way. I guess i can use it as that if i wanna though. What might be nice, for those without usernames (i.e. guests) and just to keep the general neatness of the forum, is if the form was hidden by default, then you clicked something and it ajaxed out (or something). Just a thought.

In all of my debugging I keep looking at the forum while signed out. It dawned on me that it was stupid to not have a form there at the end of each discussion, so I came up with this. But it is definitely a feature, so it won't be going into the core. That's what the extension engine is for.
  • Yeah. Good choice. And my ajax idea? You know you wanna! :P

I dunno. I don't see the point in hiding anything. It actually annoys me when things are hidden for no real purpose other than to have some wacky javascript reveal it.
  • haha. Fair enough. I agree and disagree. I think it'd be nice to tidy it up but i guess at the same time if you didnt know it was there you'd need it to be obvious how you access it which could end up making stuff messier.
    *shrug.
  • Makes sense. I like it as it is.
  • Damn! It even let Firefox have the details filled in. Yay!
  • I was totally going to write this extension.

    Testing it out... nice.

how about a link to the registration page on the form? (and this thing is usually called "Quick Reply."
  • how about, my comment form area is already packed to the brim with controls for attachments, whispers, polls, and now this.
  • Sweetness.
  • This is cool. :-) I'm testing it right now. But the preview doesn't seem to work with it?
  • MarkMark Vanilla Staff
The preview is broken right now. It's SirNot's extension, and I've told him it's broken - but I guess he's sleeping right now (or something like that).
  • I reformat, install some new hardware, come back, and HOLY SHIT THIS IS JUST GETTING MORE AND MORE AWESOME.
  • Where is this extension available from? it's not at http://lussumo.com/docs/doku.php?id=vanilla:extensions ??
  • Probably on the SVN tree.
