global problem with new applicant requests

there needs to be limit on the characters for te box that asks why they want to join the community.. im getting a lot of spam bots "applying" and my control panel shows pages and pages of random text. a character limit would solve this problem

    also, a little mobile indication such as i made above create above would be great to add context to discussions a la facebook/twitter
