F2F programs?

edited January 2006 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
Me and my counsin do alot of work together, mainly for games. Maps, textures, models and such, the file sizes can go from around few hundred kilobytes to few hundred megs. Till this day, we have mainly done out file transfers through MSN and bigger files we have usually transfered by portable media (mp3 player of external HDD) but it's time to get on with the program, it's 2006 we don't live in a cave. So I'm looking for good F2F program to use to transfer files across internet to each other, FTP is nice and all, but I'd really prefer a F2F program that allowed me to share any file from my computer and not just a specific folder. We tried WASTE, it was developed by the Napster team but then cancelled my AOL because they are bunch of asshats, fortunately WASTE still goes on in Sourceforge. But I'm looking for an alternative since WASTE has to be the most complex program I have ever used, and half of the options don't even make any sense. So is there a good F2F or P2P program that you use or could recommend for personal and private file sharing between handful of people who know each other?

Have you seen http://www.qnext.com/ ? (Still in beta though)
  • Seems neat, I'll check that one out. I have also been waiting for http://www.allpeers.com/ which seems totally awesome.

Also http://www.hamachi.cc/ looks promising PS. I'm just trawling http://del.icio.us/search/?all=p2p+private for these ;-) PPS. Damn, how do you get a + into a url properly....
  • Kosmo, just out of curiousity, what games are you modding for and what kinds of mods? I'm currently whipping something up and looking for helping heads. Back to the topic at hand though. If you remember a little program back in the day run by a small company called "Big Red H" there's a similar offshoot application which I used to run titled KDX, It's an all-around good program however it's not exactly "free" unless you snag an older version from the archives (if there still are any). http://www.haxial.com/products/kdx/ You might even find a win2k classic theme I did for it way back when.
  • Apache + FileZilla Server + FileZilla Client == FTP access for you and your buddy.
  • Thanks for your helping hands, tried the Qnext with my friend last night.

It seemed neat and all, but for some reason, I was able to dl from him at the speed of around 600kb/s but he when he tried to dl from me he got only some 4-7kb/s.

We tried to check out the most common problems, and then tinker with the uncommon, but the fabric of space and time didn't allow us any better speeds regardless of what we did.

Lech, haven't we been over this like two or three times already? I mod mainly for UT2k4 image
  • Ahh, right lol. WIlling to help me out in a small endevour?
  • Maybe if it is a tasty endeavour
