FileUpload and Thumbnail question?

I seem to remember a few Vanilla 2 versions back that when I uploaded a file (jpg, pdf, doc, etc.) that the image appeared in the discussion box as a fairly large image and also as a thumbnail. I do not see this any longer. Was this an interaction with another plug in or something that was not working correctly that gave me both the images or what? I rather liked the way the larger image was in the body of the discussion as well as the thumbnail. Right now I just see the small thumbnail as an attachment at the bottom of the message text.
