[GeSHi Syntax Highlighter addon] Syntax highlighter Not working for me

I've tried this plugin a few times and have been unable to get it to work using the newest Vanilla. Version 2.0.17.8
I've used < pre lang="php" > code < /pre > but nothing happens.
