Anyone know how to do this? I can send files fine by bluetooth but just wondering if I could share my net connection as well as don't have any ports left on the router for my laptop now...

  • I don't think that it is possible. Tho, you can use internet on your cell phone via Bluetooth, so why shouldn't it be possible.
  • Yeah that's what I though... hmm... must involve a hack of some kind...
  • you would need at least 2 lan ports on the mac, one to accept incoming connections to and through from the pc, and then the mac back out to the net. That and knowledge on how to set up a proper firewall / iptables across both machines routing out which is not too much fun.
  • sigh. well ok that sounds kinda what i thought i might need to do, don't really need to do it, just seems like a nice concept i guess.
  • Yeah, usually people demote smaller less than 500mhz machines for tasks like this to run as small file servers and pull double duty as a full blown routers using m0n0wall or smoothewall. All providing you have an excess of network cards...
  • Making the magic of Google, trying to figure out what the computer nolifers try to say in various documents about bluetooth and applying it to the use you are looking to use it for. They make it sound so hard. I don't know if it is, but what I think is that it isn't popular becaus it's not practical, for one Bluetooth has something like 2 mbit/s transfer rate. I might be wrong, but if it was practical, it would be widely used.
  • Yeah, it's possible but i really wouldnt advise it. I dont think it should be *that* hard though. Just get yourself a wireless router!
  • Got one already here, no wireless network card though. Must stress that I'd only use this for very small file transfers.
  • This is looking promising: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20021103062212288
  • Why not plug a switch or hub into one of the router ports?
  • Heheh too easy
