Multiple forums using the same user tables?

I'm considering expanding my project to encompass two more domain names to cover similar topics. I want to however use the same users base for all of them. Any ideas on how to use the same users tables for separate forum installs?

  • I would be interested to know if anyone has done this. Using subdomains might make organization easier for big projects.
  • I don't think you could do this, as the user table mixes data that defines the user, and also logs certain dynamic properties of the user, e.g. last active dates, comment counts, discussion counts etc. Those dynamic properties would need to be different across each discussion forum.
  • So, you are wanting two instances of Vanilla, that connect to the same database, is that correct?
