Dates in RSS feed (latest discussions)

The RSS feed of the latest discussions (discussions/feed.rss) lists the discussions in the same order as they appear on the front page of Vanilla. The dates associated with each discussion in the RSS feed are the dates the discussions were created.

Now, what is confusing some users is that the discussions jump around, they get reordered according to which have been commented on last. But the dates don't change, so users are asking me why the discussion from last week is showing at the top, above a discussion from today.

The latest discussions RSS feed is fed to a block in a CMS.

How do others here handle this? Would it make sense to change the date in the RSS feed to list the latest addition (ie. comment) to each discussion? Or would it make more sense to change the order of the latest discussions RSS feed to be strictly that, i.e. latest *discussions* in reverse creation order, ignoring when the discussions have been commented on completely?

Any thoughts?
