Forum may not be assigning guests to Guest role

After installing Vanilla I imported data from Simple:Press. Now I'm experiencing various errors with the forum when signed out. So to eliminate a possible cause, is the Guest role specified to be assigned to non-registered viewers somewhere in the Vanilla files? I need to check that, and if it was set to one of the default roles I may need to change the code or the Guest role now that the default roles are no longer present.
