Missing Plugin?

Trying to add links to the sidebar as in something like this...http://vanillaforums.org/discussion/4946/adding-links-to-sidepanel/p1

I created a new folder in the plugins folder and dropped a default.php file in the folder. When I go to my dashboard and look in plugins to enable it...it's not listed. I'm sure I'm doing something really dumb...but what is it?

    the discussions you're referring to is about vanilla1.
    If you're using vanilla2, it will definitely not work, those 2 are incompatible.
