'Lightbox' profile edit options disabled/broken by RewriteUrls setting?

Hi gang,
Recently switched on friendly URLs and this broke the profile menu popup "lightboxes" all direct to 404s. I notice when I put http://www.myforum.com/profile/edit it forces a redirect to http://www.myforum.com/index.php?p=/profile/edit
Yet, when the lightbox works its magic we only see a 404.
Might be something to look into?
