Javascript and CSS optimisation

edited January 2006 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
"Pre-compress your javascript and css files to reduce latency and cpu overhead on websites." http://www.zimbra.com/blog/archives/2006/01/zimbra_ajax_css_digg.html Would this be advantageous for vanilla?

Comments

  • While it certainly could be a useful thing for site administrators to do, it would be a terrible idea for mark to do, because it would slow down style and behavior modifications. If anything, the code needs to be clearer.
  • Reading through the article and comments, while this seems like a great idea, it might not flow well with some browsers out there. At least as far as gzipping the file goes.
  • then again, those browsers probably won't run vanilla at all...
  • well, they might run vanilla, but the unconditional gzipping scheme might be more the problem.
