Please help! Forum access is broken!

For some reason, when a user who is not logged in tries to access our (embedded) forum, they're not getting the login page but rather this:

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /forum/index.php on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

    Looks like you have some sort of permission error on your server. That error is from apache, before Vanilla starts.

    Try browsing to the actual forum and see if it works un-embedded first.

    I had the exact same problem with another script this morning. I assume it is a problem inside the apache settings, httpd.conf
    I can't remember if that information is inside phpinfo, but set up a phpinfo file just in case.
    Maybe something to do with AllowOverride or FollowSymlinks directive of apache.

    The strange thing is, it *was* working fine. I made no changes to httpd.conf. I'm on a shared hosting plan; maybe my web host tweaked something. Whatever it was, they seem to have fixed it because it's working properly again, now.
