Have the categories displayed first as default?

    I wonder if this could be as simple as swapping the names of the discussions and categories files in the theme... and then adjusting a link here and there.

    Categories is where its at, dicussions are more like recent topics and comments are like posts categories is what defines the forum or message board, it gives it some shape, categories is the first thing I look at and most people do, discussions are what members look at. I'd like to see categories as default, it can't hurt to have the option, most people are accustom to the look and feel of a message board, Vanilla is unique for sure but also having some familiarity can be a good thing too. Curious how the upcoming blog will interact with the forum since vanilla uses terms like discussion and comments and a blog may use these as well. Does anyone know when the next release of vanilla is due ?

    The next release won't be for a while, but Mark will preview all of the new Vanilla features at the upcoming Lussumo Worldwide Developer's Conference 2007 in Calgary. If you haven't seen one of Mark's Keynotes, you're in for a treat. But, if you can't wait for that, you can come along to LussumoWorld this November. It's being held in Saskatchewan ; )

    My 2 cents:
    The CategoryJumper extension, written by Mark, is almost filling this gap of categories/discussion opening page: opening on the discussion page with the category of choice selected is the most comfortable way on a busy forum.
    The only downside is that this extension does not retain the selected category between page reload. This is a very simple modification to do and I'll do it for my own need if someone doesn't overtake me.
