how to use the canonical tag to prevent duplicate content

Does anyone know how to implement this in vanilla, to prevent pages such as ..../?Focus=15106 from being indexed?

This is killing my SEO.

ok, I've worked out, all i need to be able to generate in the head section is the plain url:

eg http://www.example.com/forum/discussion/1031/3/this-page-here/

instead of http://www.example.com/forum/discussion/1031/?Focus=7134

So, my real question, is how can I echo out the "/forum/discussion/1031/3/this-page-here/" bit in head.php?

This is in vanilla 1 BTW.

Vanilla 1 does not get that much discussion around here anymore. Vanilla 2 does canonical urls by default.
