problem wih start new discussion button

when i am signed out of forum, why do i still see a start a new discussion button.
dosent it is supposed to appear after i have signed in the forum?
using vanilla 2.0.18b on localhost.
is it supposed to be so?

    Which theme are you using? Is it a custom theme?
    Do you know a little PHP so you can test some things on your localhost.

    Done on purpose so when people click on it, they are offered to join to enter the forum.

    no it is not a custom theme.
    i dont know php but if you can tell me something i can try to test it.

  • i get this screen when i start a new discussion.
    i am signed out from the forum as you can see.
    adn after i fill in the particulars in the respective fields and submit , nothing happens. i dont get to choose the categories too.

    Well, don't see the image from work, lots are blocked.

    Anyway, on my own forum, I don't have the start a discussion, I'm only able to add comments to discussion I'm authorized to see when not logged in.
    And when clicking it, it asks me to log in.

    Maybe related to permission given to the Guest role.
  • I have the same problem as the above, and the lack of solutions to these issues is a little annoying. My guest users are not prompted to become members, they just see the form above with no categories available, which just reloads when they try to submit a new post.
  • Ok, 1 more question before you have to look in the source.
    Is it an embedded forum? Did you embed your forum into WordPress?
