Let it sink

This isn't my idea, it's a friends. I think it's an excellent idea. I have no knowledge whatsoever on how this could be coded but I thought I'd throw it in there.

I've quoted their words exactly so I don't screw it up.
One feature that I'd really like to see on a forum is like a "let it sink" option that would replace "Close". That way, if there's some way offtopic or trolly thread, a moderator would check the let it sink option and from then on new posts wouldn't bump it to the top.

That way, the douchebags that want to continue the topic can keep talking, but those kinds of threads won't clog up the main page.
I think that about sums it up :)

    Sounds like it would go hand-in-hand with the troll/douchebag status idea I posted the other day in here : http://lussumo.com/community/discussion/1669/ . Maybe if a thread was then started by that user, it would automatically sink any threads started by them after they reached a certain status level :)

    That sounds awesome. It combines the best of both worlds, it removes unwanted discussions from the eyes and threads will no longer be closed by moderators that don't agree with your view.

    Hmmm. Interesting idea. I bet I could pull that off without too much difficulty. And since I have time while I wait for the xhtml, I might just do it.

    Wow... Brilliant.

    How about the ability to do this per-user also? Some threads I read and never want to go back into again, but keep coming up to the top. That way I could banish the thread from my screen without affecting others who are participating in it.

    Sinking is now in the core of 093 as of revision 206. I needed to make a database change for this to work. I'll post a message about it on the blog, and I've added the required SQL to upgrade-notes.txt. wallphone: that's a little more complex, but probably do-able. I'd say that would be better as an extension, though.

    Not bored. I just like it when a cool feature like this comes up and I know it won't take me long to do. Now I've got to get to "real work" :(
