Guests able to view post form

On my forum guests are able to access the post a discussion form if it is linked to directly (we are linking to the post form from a custom part of the site). I need the guest to see a login form instead. I noticed that here at vanillaforums.org the post form behavior for guests is correct. Is there a setting I need to change somewhere?

    I tried installing the latest beta to see if the behavior is the same and it is. Which leads me to wonder what is different on this vanillaforums.org installation. Setting? Plugin? Any help would be appreciated.

    In admin panel double check the roles and permissions for guests.

    I may be wrong but I think there is no option to allow Guests to post so permissions should not be the culprit here? Anyway it seems to be a bug as the problem corrected itself on my live installation but persists on my test installation.
