Error during step 3 of 3, create user

edited February 2006 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
Just downloaded and tried to install locally. I get the error in step 3 of 3, when it tries to create my admin user (got it also with the vanilla.sql) and now when creating new users (after manually creating admin) Field "Attributes" has no default value anyone know why I might be getting that?

  • Oh and before someone says to just change the DB field to "null" being allowed. The question is should it be that way?

what version of php and mysql? I know there was a thread about this earlier, and it turned out to be due to a change in mysql 5

    Here is the old thread.

I'm not sure what the official SQL rules are about treating empty strings as null, but apparently the way MySQL treated the issue changed between version 4 and 5, and that caused some stuff to break.
  • Thanks! I searched but not "comments" still some things to learn I guess. I'm running MySQL 5 and is probably my problem for several things. I'm going to downgrade to 4 and give it another go.

For the record, the next version will not have these problems as I am now developing with both v4 and v5 mysql dbs.
  • Good to know. My is working 100% no problem now with v4
  • mark, can we pluck the requirement for vanilla having to write out an info.php and testing the images directory? for some reason, half the servers I've attempted it on, the installer seems to choke at that point.

I'll see what I can do...
  • excellent :) Otherwise make it possible so that you can skip that step.
