How do I confine a discussion to a certain role?

I want to use vanilla forums in a scenario where users post various types of discussions. However, as a moderator, I want to confine certain discussions (once they are posted by the users) to be visible to a specific role only.

How can I accomplish this?

You need to put all the discussions you want to restrict into their own category. Then you can defined the permissions for that category so that only a certain role can view them.
