stupid question about Stickys

I am asking a really stupid question, sorry in advance. How do you create a Sticky. I saw on the application setting that you can define the prefix/suffix and keyword of a Sticky. To activate the sticky do you place a '[Sticky]' within the discussion topic field? It did not work for me - I may have incorrectly entered it, but just checking with you guys. Embarassing question.. hahahha
