Forum spam - approval mechanism?

Hello all,
I run a forum that is now starting to see a reasonable amount of spam (I'm deleting about a user per day). I've got the flood control settings quite tight and the Stop Forum Spam plug-in enabled, but still there is a fair amount of spam coming through.
I was wondering about writing a little plug-in that would run the posted content through a spam filter and either allow the content to be posted on the forum or add it to a queue for moderator approval.
So my question is, is there already a mechanism available in Vanilla for queuing comments and new discussions, with moderator approval pending that I can effectively hijack for this?
Thanks,
Allan

If you want to do a spam filter you can also have a look at the akismet plugin to see what it does.
Fantastic - thanks very much both for your feedback! The kismet plug-in looks ideal - I'll certainly give that a go initially :-)
