Can I remove the first name/last name required?

edited March 2006 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
A lot of my site users will be minors and I don't want to require them to enter first/lastname. It can be there as an option but i'd rather have *'s (required) next to everything except fiirst/last name. Is this possible in in point 2? Thanks, James

  • To my knowledge, this isn't possible without getting dirty in the code. However, by default, (I think, don't quote me here) Vanilla doesn't display real names without the users permission. If not, the user still has the option to hide it later. If you really want, you can modify your language file to explain to your users that they don't have to fill out their real information other than username and email (in case they lose or forget their passwords). In otherwords, your users can sign up to your forum with the the first and last name being "captain kangaroo" and vanilla wouldn't mind.
  • Thanks for the feedback. I guess it's alright.
  • I thought most the mines had been shut down?
  • Mini: Not in 0.9.2 they weren't.

In 0.9.3.84, I had to re-add them in by hand.
