Should I be worried? (uncleared eCheck for PayPay payment)

So, in the design contest that I won the guy paid me before I did any of the coding on March 11, it was listed as an Uncleared payment that was expected to clear on the 20th. That seems like a long time, but whatever. I've finished the coding and installation work. Is it reasonable to assume that he may have paid me so quickly because he doesn't have the money and the payment won't clear?

6 business days to clear a check isn't really excessive.

If the 20th comes and goes without any money, then you start to worry.

It took forever (at least 8 days) the last time I used an eCheck through PayPal. I would not be worried just yet. But follow it up in a few days anyway. Paypal would probably let you know if something went wrong.

And if their account isn't US-based, it will generally take about 10 days. I know this, because I'm in Canada and it takes my wife's ebay echecks about 10 days to clear.
