Template based display

edited March 2006 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
It would be nice if Vanilla had a template based display rather than $this->context->writer->add("<html>"); Both vB and IPB have added systems like this in recent years and I think it would increase the popularity of the forum. In addition, it would make it easier for developers like me to create mods/extensions that are easier to use. It also allows designers to create skins for the forum. The beauty of this forum is that it is small and (on clean install) is bare-bones and I dont think that adding a template editing system for administrators would change that.

There are themes in the next version. You'll be able to edit raw php files and make it do just about anything. On the downside you'll have to deal with intermingled php code here and there. I didn't make it a raw template with search/replace code for the content because it would slow things down too much, but there's nothing stopping users from making that type of setup in Vanilla - I know one user already has with the beta of version 1.
