Wow, some of you guys seem pretty bitter (I'm sure some of you are just acting like that, but maybe some of you really are).
Not sure what the problem with private forums is.
/me sings: It's my internet and I'll be bitter and post rants on my Web 2.0 blog if I want to, be bitter and post rants on my Web 2.0 blog if I want to, be bitter and post rants on my Web 2.0 blog if I want to. You would be bitter and post rants on your Web 2.0 blog too if it happened tooooo youuuuuuuu.
/me bows.
I don't see a problem with private forums at all. Unless people from those forums start talking about them outside of those forums. That kind of thing annoys me, because I have no way of knowing if I'm missing out on something or not (something along those lines anyway). It's a bit like when people started getting GMail, and everyone who had it was blabbing about it everywhere.
I don't mind people guessing at what might behind the walls of humhum of course. :)
imho they're both very similar, but hh is more eurocentric time- & joke-wise. yh is the poster child for loud brash americans. hh has a higher signal to noise ratio probably due to it being slower with fewer members (700+ vs. 7000+), but content-wise they're more similar than they would like to admit.
personally, yh suits my fancy a little more because of the quicker pace.
actually, below the "i was invited" button there's a "this is a pointlessly elitist registration system for a web design forum" button that gives you guest access. but only Googlebot can see it
