Hey everyone, I'm testing two boards right now, one of which is Vanilla, to see which best suits our needs and integrate it in our website. The board will be used on a site for gay teenagers where they can communicate and share their stories. Though alot of these sites exist,m unfortunately it is heavily underdevelopped in our region of The Netherlands. Vanilla suits our needs of a clean interface and total simplicity but we have one problem. We need to allow users to post anonymously on our board as not everyone has outed themselves and its also a question of privacy, some kids don't want to register out of fear mostly that their identity might be discoverd/disclosed which could get the into trouble with freinds and parents. Is there a way to open Vanilla board to such extent as to allow anonymous posts?

No, that is not an option in Vanilla right now. Vanilla is designed around the user experience, and in order to make that experience richer, we need to identify you as a user so that we can assign preferences to you, track your activity so you can see what you have and haven't read, etc. There has been talk of developing an entirely different forum for anonymous posting, but that is very far down the line. Who knows, though? Maybe when Vanilla 1 is released, someone will make an extension that allows anonymous posting?
  • Hmz thats too bad... Figures we could just create an anonymous account which ppl can use...

That *could* work, but you might get people abusing the account and editing what other people wrote.
  • Anonymous will only be given posting rights, nothing else and if we do see that it is abused we will have to remove the account On any other forum the right to post anonimously would be removed so the effect is the same in the end
  • The only way I can think of truely anonymizing posts is to deny all users and non-users the rights to access profiles. Then all you're left with is a username and login. Of course only that user will then have the right to access their own profile. Or it could be a per-user option to enable or disable the right to have others view your profile.
  • Your users could just use anonymous information in their accounts. Vanilla doesnt care if people want to be called mini sweeper or frank bruno aslong as it has something to tell everyone else. Whats more, since usernames and details can be change (if you wish to let them), when they're more comfortable they could reveal themselves (so to speak) and they'd still have all their own preferences and whatnot.
